With the best record in Major League Baseball, the New York Yankees have been very good to New York sports bettors this season.
After being no-hit by three Houston Astros pitchers on Saturday, the Yankees (53-20, .726) found themselves down 3-0 with no hits through six innings on Sunday. They then came back in dramatic fashion with three home runs, capped by a three-run blast by Aaron Judge in the bottom of the 10th inning, to give New York a 6-3 victory and split the four-game home series with the Astros.
Giancarlo Stanton got things started in the seventh inning with a solo home run to end the no-hit bid. DJ LeMahieu tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning, setting the stage for Judge’s heroics.
The win marked the Yankees 10th walk-off win and its 22nd comeback of the season.
New York has an 11-game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the American League East, is 6-4 over its last 10 games and improved to 31-9 at home. The Yankees begin a three-game series tonight at Yankee Stadium against the worst team in baseball, the Oakland Athletics.
Jordan Montgomery (3-1, 2.97 ERA) takes the mound for the Yankees tonight. Paul Blackburn (6-3, 2.97 ERA) gets the start for the Athletics. The A’s record (24-49, .338) is the worst in MLB. Oakland has won back-to-back games but is a dismal 9-30 against teams over .500. The A’s are 21 games behind the Astros in the AL West Division.
