With the stagnant summer months in the rear-view mirror, the September monthly New York sports betting report produced its seventh $1 billion dollar month in handle since launching on Jan. 8.
The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) reported Wednesday morning
that the state’s total monthly sports betting handle (mobile and retail combined) was more than $1.265 billion dollars, a huge 44.2% increase from August ($872.22 million).
A specific breakdown of the two: Mobile was more than $1.256 billion, up 44.1% from August’s $872.23 million, and retail had an enormous increase of more than $8.85 million, up a whopping 70.9% from August ($5.18 million).
Total sports betting revenue for September (Gross Gaming Revenue, mobile and retail combined) was more than $145.04 million, up 44% from August ($100.76 million).
The state’s total mobile GGR posted at more than $143.33 million, up a significant 44% from August’s $99.6 million. Retail sports betting GGR for the month was more than $1.7 million, a 47.3% increase from August’s $1.16 million.
Tax collected in the state for September was more than $73.09million, up more than $23 million from August’s $50.79 million. Note that New York has a 51% tax rate, tied for highest in the nation with New Hampshire.
New York’s total numbers for net revenue to platform provider was more than $70.23 million - its highest ever - and the net revenue to education was more than $73.09 million, also its highest ever.
All 9 Providers Increase Handle, DraftKings Biggest Winner
All nine of the NY sports betting apps showed increases in their total monthly handle and seven of the nine showed increases in total GGR with the exceptions of BetMGM NY and PointsBet NY.
Although still second behind FanDuel NY, DraftKings Sportsbook NY was the biggest winner for September with a handle of more than $422.2 million, a huge increase of more than $177.66 million from August ($244.54 million) and its highest to date since launch on Jan. 8.
Its mobile sports wagering GGR of more than $44.86 million was also the highest to date for the Boston-based company.
September’s top five mobile handles by operator are Fan Duel NY ($499.82 million), DraftKings ($422.2 million); Caesars NY ($163.19 million), BetMGM NY ($95.67 million) and Rush Street Interactive’s NY BetRivers ($34.9 million).
The top five in mobile GGR were: FanDuel ($65.68 million), DraftKings ($44.86 million), Caesars ($18.57 million), BetMGM ($8.59 million) and BetRivers ($2.67 million).
