New York Betting Handle Rising, Slowly, with Football on Horizon

As New York sports betting gets closer to the start of full seasons for college football and the NFL, the slow but steady rise out of the summer doldrums continues.

For the fourth consecutive week, there was an increased handle posted in the Empire State.

The latest numbers, for the week ending Aug. 21, were posted Thursday by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC).

The latest handle was slightly above $200 million, a modest $3.09 million increase from $196.9M the previous week.

The total number marked the first time NY betting apps went above $200 million since about $212.79 million was recorded for the week ending July 3.

Total mobile Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) was more than $24.36 million, the highest it has been since more than $27 million was posted for the week ending July 10.

Taxes collected for the state surpassed $12.4 million.

NY NFL betting continues with the final week of preseason starting tonight with two games on tap: Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs (NFL Network, 8 p.m.) and the San Francisco 49ers at Tennessee Titans (Amazon Prime Video, 8:15). 
 
College football season begins Saturday. The NFL’s regular season starts Thursday, Sept. 8.

Seven Providers Post Increases in Handle, GGR

Seven of the state’s nine mobile providers notched increases in both weekly handle and GGR. 
 
DraftKings Sportsbook New York and PointsBet Sportsbook New York were the only two providers to have modest handle decreases. WynnBet Sportsbook New York and PointsBet had declines in GGR.

FanDuel Sportsbook New York, the state’s leading mobile provider, posted its highest handle since the week ending July 3, more than $85.45 million. Its total GGR increased for the second straight week, to about $12.04 million, up from $10.49 million a week earlier.

FanDuel is right on the doorstep of $4 billion in total handle, with more than $3.98B. It also has $348 million in GGR and more than $177.48 million in state taxes.

DraftKings recorded $55.27 million in total handle. Its total GGR was $6.58 million. To date, DK NY has had a handle of more than $2.47 billion, $172.64 million in total GGR and more than $88.05 million in taxes paid since Jan. 8.

Caesars Sportsbook New York remained in third overall, posting more than $26.88 million in total handle and close to $3 million in total GGR, coming in at more than $2.99 million.

For the next state report, Caesars should go over the $2 billion mark in total handle since launch. Its total GGR is at $146.12 million, with taxes to the state at more than $74.52 million. 
 
Rounding out the top four is BetMGM Sportsbook New York. It posted more than $17.05 million in total handle, with a total GGR of a little less than $2.1 million. To date, BetMGM had generated more than $889.58 million in total handle, as well as more than $43.67 million in GGR and $22.27 million in taxes to Albany.

The state has handled more than $9.93 billion since Jan. 8, with total GGR at more than $746.83 million. Taxes to the state have exceeded $380.88 million.
