Mets Have Been Hot in New York Betting; Scherzer Expected Back Soon
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Coming off a not-so-tidy 10-game West Coast trip, the New York Mets returned home Tuesday and had a nice, tidy 4-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, rewarding sports bettors in New York to start a seven-game homestand.

Coming off his worst outing of the season, Mets pitcher Chris Bassitt (5-4) pitched eight shutout innings. He scattered three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts to earn the win.

The Mets (41-22, .651), who have won two games in a row, lead the red-hot Atlanta Braves (36-27, .571) by five games in the National League East Division. Atlanta is on a torrid, 13-game win streak.

New York continues its three-game set with the Brewers Wednesday (7:10 p.m.) as David Paterson (3-0, 3.00 ERA) takes the mound for the Mets to face Corbin Burnes (3-4, 2.48 ERA), the 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner.

At BetMGM New York, the Mets are a moneyline underdog in the game at +110 with +1.5 on the run line (-155).

The Brewers are a slight online betting favorite at -135 (-1.5 runs, +125) with the over/under run total at 7.5.

Scherzer Could Return to Metsā€™ Rotation Soon

It might take two weeks but pitcher Max Scherzer (5-1, 2.56 ERA) could be coming back to the rotation, which would provide a huge boost to the team with the Braves now on their heels.

Scherzer is scheduled to pitch in a simulated game Thursday against some of his teammates. If all goes well, he will do a minor-league rehabassignment for one game (possibly next week). With no issues, he could return for the next Mets homestand at the end of the month.

Scherzer left his home start against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 18 with an injury and was expected to be out six to eight weeks.

Updated BetMGM Futures

BetMGM released its latest futures in MLB betting Wednesday morning.

The Mets are a solid -275 to win the NL East (Braves +250), +325 to win the National League (Dodgers are the favorite at +200) and +700 to win the World Series, tied with the Houston Astros for third overall (Dodgers +375, Yankees +500).

Among BetMGM bettors, the Mets have the third-highest ticket percentage among the favorites at 11.1% to win the World Series (Dodgers and Yankees each at 12.4%). They also have the third highest handle at 14.1% (Yankees 18.4%, Dodgers 14.6%).

Meanwhile, the Yankees continue on a tear. They won their fifth in a row with a 2-0 shutout win last night behind six solid innings from Gerrit Cole. The Yankees are now 45-16 (.738), which puts them on an incredible 120-game win pace.
